RAF Leuchars Air Show 2009 DVD / Blu-ray
RAF Leuchars in Scotland is now the only RAF air show to open its gates at the historically important mid September date commemorating victory in The Battle Of Britain. 2009 benefited from glorious weather and clear air for our powerful high-definition ground based and in-cockpit cameras.
Full support from the Royal Air Force meant that every RAF asset rostered for display in 2009 appeared at the Leuchars show. A local Tornado F3 also made a welcome appearance as the type winds down to retirement. Its replacement, Eurofighter Typhoon, will be based at Leuchars next year. It flies here in formation with the Vulcan and performed a breathtaking solo routine. The Polish MiG 29, Czech Saab Gripen, Dutch and Belgian F16's (the latter with a cockpit minicam) provided the adrenalin contrasting with the nostalgia from Spitfires, Hurricane and Lancaster. The SE5a (with on-board camera) from WW1 reminded us where air warfare began and several contributors, not least The Red Arrows and the local Cossacks team, delighted all with the beauty of aerobatics.
For most of the huge crowd the Avro Vulcan was the highlight, starting and finishing its display with a take-off and landing rather than the airborne arrival and departure seen elsewhere. This DVD features several of the arrivals for static exhibition plus every display on air show day.
