30 Years of Airshow DVDs
I’ve just completed adding a lot of our older airshow DVDs to the PlanesTV.com shop. It was prompted by a few requests to do so after I sent out an email newsletter (sign up here!) featuring some awesome airshow action from a Mildenhall Air Fete in the nineties.
We’re slowly bringing our older airshow programmes to the on demand site. But, whilst we still have the ability to produce stock of the older titles they’ll be available here in DVD/Blu-ray form. Not forever though!
For those that asked, here’s some of the Air Fete DVDs
The annual Mildenhall Air Fete is the UK showcase for modern American might and muscle and this bumper length video features the most dramatic action from the 1988 to 1995 shows.
American types dominate particularly the 'heavies' for which "The Hall" is so famous but rare and spectacular contributors from a dozen other air forces are included too.
Blackbird, Red Arrows, Victor, Vulcan, Shackleton, RAF Tactical Assault, Phantom, F5 Tiger II, F16 Fighting Falcon, F18 Hornet, F14 Tomcat, F15 Eagle, F111 Aardvark, F117 'stealth' Fighter, DH88 Comet, Lancaster, PT Flight, Hurricane, P38 Lightning, P47 Thunderbolt, P51 Mustang, Spitfire, B17 Flying Fortress, B25 Mitchell, C41 (Dakota), F86 Sabre, Patrouille France, Jaguar, Mirage 2000, Super Frelon, Super Etendard, Harrier, Hunter, Sea King, Magister, Alpha Jet, Alouette, Grasshoppers, F27 Troopship, L39 Albatross, Frecce Tricolori, KC135 Stratotanker, KC10 Extender, C130 Hercules, C141 Starlifter, C5 Galaxy, C17 Globemaster III, E3 Sentry, Rockwell B1, B52 Stratofortress.
Narrator: David McEwan.
1992 saw the 50th Anniversary of the UK arrival of the US 8th Air Force and the show featured a strong warbird presence. The Douglas A26 Invader is a rare sight at UK airshows. The Vulcan and RAF Phantom were here in their last ever display at Mildenhall. American air power excelled with Starlifter, Galaxy, F15E and the F14 Tomcat. But the star of the show (on static display) was the F117A "Stealth Fighter". Our cameras were there to record its arrival.
RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk is operated by the United States Air Force and hosts a big military airshow over the two days of the Spring Bank Holiday.
1991 was the 15th annual event and included rare displays by the heaviest metal in the USAF inventory including the B1 and B52 bombers, the C5 Galaxy and C141 Starlifter transports and Mildenhall's own KC135's tankers.
Fast Jets included the F15,F16, Tornado and Mirage 2000.
The RAF's Shackleton made one of its last ever appearances contrasting poignantly with displays by the E3A AWAACS and Nimrod.
Mildenhall '91 will be remembered particularly for the static display of aircraft, many with crews, that had taken part in the Gulf conflict.
The airfield attack with Tornados, Jaguars, Harriers, Hercules, Chinook and Puma plus troops is this video's highlight. Includes rare Rockwell B1B display. 19 aircraft types in total.
Also includes a more recent sample product.
I hope it helps fill any gaps in your collection.

Air Fete '96 at RAF Mildenhall was the best for probably 10 years!
Traditionally a heavy metal event, no fewer than 16 countries took part with debut appearances by the Slovak Republic "White Albatross" Team, the "Green March" from Morroco, and F4 Phantom from Turkey and a Boeing 707 tanker from South Africa.
Superb weather and superlative flying by a seemingly endless cavalcade of military might included 10 national teams and debuts by German and Czech MIG 29's, a German Phantom and the Czech Mil "Hind" gunships.
The F117A "Nighthawk" stealth fighter, flying at the Air Fete for the first time, lead the big US Air Force participation and the B1B Lancer shattered the Suffolk skies for the first time in five years.
This video includes every item on display. F117A Stealth Fighter, B1, B52, F15 Eagle, Phantom, Mig 29, Mil "Hind" gunships ...and much, much more!!!
